A Month When Love is Right at Home

This is a great month for romance because it starts on August 1 with an energetic New Moon in Leo, the sign of the heart. This is a Solar Eclipse, which might threaten old relationships gone cold, yet it certainly invites warm feelings that can lead to love. Venus, the planetary symbol of amour, is in Leo as well, but will be moving on to the more practical sign of Virgo on August 5. This marks a transition when we become more discriminating in relationships, still with a great desire to connect, yet with a bit more caution. At its negative extreme, this could lead to pickiness and criticism that can take the air out of romance.

However, when Virgo’s analysis is applied in a constructive manner it provides the maturity to work on problems that hinder partnerships. While the combination of Leo’s sense of performance and Virgo’s role as a critic can be challenging, help for lovers comes when Mars enters Libra on August 19. This normally passionate planet can be hotheaded, even selfish. Yet its entry into the accommodating sign of partnership adds a dose of reason to relationships. The warrior Mars is now more diplomatic, gracious and willing to meet others halfway. There’s a certain gallantry and desire to put others at ease to help cool down anger and smooth over differences. We may meet a few bumps along the way when Mars makes an explosive opposition to Uranus on August 6 and a tense 90-degree square to manipulative Pluto on August 17.
